Pray for Egypt and Israel

Pray for the world leaders engaged in all the drama in the Middle East
these days. Our faith has it's roots in that region. From Genesis to
Revelation our Bible was written in that region originally. Your
Bible is loaded with history and geography that will help you make
sense of some of the current geopolitical turmoil. Here's a map that
may help you pray more specifically as you watch and read all the news
coming out of Egypt. It may also help you understand where our faith
ancestors lived.

Fantastic Little Bible Study You Can Do ONLINE in about 10 Minutes....

I'm up early preparing the message for this coming Sunday and this particular verse is loaded with potential for a powerful online study about who Jesus really is.  The way that the Bible Gateway website sets this up using the Holman Christian Standard Version of the Bible makes a very easy way to do a powerful online study.

Here's how:
2.  Once on the site take a moment to prayerfully read the scripture
3.  Now click on each of the blue letters [ A, B, C ] throughout the verse and read the scriptures that it takes you to
4.  Click the back button on your browser and repeat until you've gone through all the blue numbers [they're called 'cross references because the refer you to other scripture(s) ]

So cool.  So powerful.  The tools we have at our fingertips to explore the Bible are fantastic.

Enjoy today!!

p.s.  The Bible Gateway Site is my favorite online Bible Study resource -- it's powerful, simple, and it doesn't cost a dime to use!  Take some time to poke around on there and notice that you can change versions, click cross references, check commentaries and even dig into the original Greek and Hebrew text.  If you're ready to dig into your Bible this will really help.

Republic Bike | Custom track bikes, fixed gear bicycles, fixies, Dutch bikes | built by us and you

So many things can be customized and custom built these days like these really cool bikes:

This reminds me of how God wants to work with us -- each of us is meant to have a 'custom built' one-of-a-kind life.  But, we're not always patient enough with the process to let God do HIS best work in us.  Check out this passage that reminds us that we're hand-crafted by God and not mass-produced ....

Ephesians 2:8-10 (Common English Bible)

8 You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith through his faithfulness. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed. 9 It’s not something you did that you can be proud of. 10 Instead, we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.

For those at Phos Church gear up for a very cool series beginning right after Valentine's Day 2011 designed to help you learn all about living a 'Custom Built Life' with God.

Funeral Arrangements for Jeff Fuson's Granny, Mae Mitchell

Thanks to all who have called, texted, facebooked to reach out to me.  Your love means a lot.

This is CELEBRATION Week for Granny Mitchell as she's finally freed from the confines of that tiny Nursing Home room and that hospital bed that have confined her body and kept her spirit from soaring to the one who loves her best and most.  So, for my mom and her 6 brothers and sisters (who are all around and doing pretty well health wise) this is a week of celebration and letting Granny go.  We all know that she is so better off than we can even imagine and after 8 years we're definitely ready to let her soar.

Unlike the tragic death of a younger person that is sudden and unanticipated, Granny's passing on has been grieved and anticipated and prepared for over a lot of years.  She was in the nursing home for the past 8 years. So, we're focused on remembering and celebrating and yes, we grieve, but we grieve as ones with a great hope.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (The Message) 13-14And regarding the question, friends, that has come up about what happens to those already dead and buried, we don't want you in the dark any longer. First off, you must not carry on over them like people who have nothing to look forward to, as if the grave were the last word. Since Jesus died and broke loose from the grave, God will most certainly bring back to life those who died in Jesus.

 (more about Granny below)

About the Funeral Arrangements:  Visitation is at Calvary Baptist Church at 98 Calvary Church Road in Corbin, KY 40701 from 6 to 8 Thursday evening and on Friday we'll have a Visitation from 1 to 2 PM with the funeral happening at 2 PM also at Calvary Baptist Church.  She'll then be buried up on the hill overlooking the church at Calvary Cemetary next to her husband, Roscoe Malcolm Mitchell.

She and my Papa loved Jesus and they expressed that by being ACTIVE ACTIVE ACTIVE in the Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church.  Their devotion spilled over onto my mom and dad and into my life and I learned to Love Jesus, the Church and to serve in the church in all my growing up years.  And, it's there where I accepted Christ (under protest and with much amazement that God busted down my defenses and overcame my stubbornness!!) and was baptized.  So, this journey of saying goodbye to Granny is filled with gratitude and remembering for me.  She was a huge part of leading me to Christ via participation in our local church.

Granny was 94 years old when she died.  Her legacy lives on through me and a herd of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Here name was Lillie Mae Evans Mitchell.  She worked lots of retail jobs, worked at the Holiday Inn as a Maid, worked the books at the Concrete Block plant that my grandfather owned and she valued work and compassion.  She combined her willingness to work hard with her compassion for those less fortunate (if you knew her and papa's background and how poor they were you'd wonder how they could offer help to anyone else....) through her work at Calvary Baptist Church.  In particular she worked in the Women's Missionary Union helping those in need locally and being sure that people all over the world would have a chance to hear about Jesus.

About Memorial Gifts:
So, in honor of that, the family is requesting that memorial gifts be sent in lieu of flowers to the Women's Missionary Union, Mae Mitchell Fund, 98 Calvary Church Road, Corbin, KY 40701.

Some have asked about sending a note or card to my mom and that'd be great if you want to.  Her name is JoAnn Fuson and her address is 76 Standard Avenue, Corbin, KY 40701.

Thanks again for loving on me and my family at this time.

Peace,
Jeff

p.s.  My cousin Julie is about to have a baby girl any hour now and her name will be Lillie, just like my granny's ... every time a baby is born it reminds us that God is still on His throne and it's His plan that life goes on...

Pray me through please....

My grandmother, Mae Mitchell died today around noon in Corbin,
Kentucky. She has had a long nursing home bout and got really sick
last evening. She was a Christ follower and had a great life and left
a great legacy for large family. I'll tell you more about Granny in
the days ahead as she set a great example we all can learn from. Pray
for my mom as this is really tough on her. Thanks.

To Achieve Higher Goals

To climb higher you have to train harder.
To get to new places you've for to take new roads.
To learn new things you need a new set if coaches.
To enjoy life more you need to love and be loved by God and others.
To arrive in better places it's gonna take risking unfamiliar spaces
and welcoming new faces.
To live life fully is to allow Christ to give it to you completely-
your life is not a 'do it yourself' project. God is waiting to craft
it with you, for you, and through you.

Enjoy your journey!

Jeff

Here's to your best year ever.

Long Range Weather Forecasting that may actually be on target ...

Too early to tell if I'm ready to fully endorse Piers Corbyn and the weatheraction.com folks for their long range weather forecasting based on the Solar action of the Sun, but it sure is interesting to study a bit more.  I think these guys make a lot more sense than the Global Warming Tribe.

It won't cost a dime to read 'The Case for Christmas' this Christmas!

In preparing for the message this week I just read 'The Case for Christmas' by Lee Strobel.

For those of us who have ever wondered who that baby in the manger on that first Christmas really was this would be a great Christmas read.  It's a short book loaded with lots of insights.  I was able to download an electronic version of the book onto my free 'Kindle' App on the IPhone and also onto the free Kindle reader app on my Mac.  So, free software and a free download of a great book that will grow your faith and challenge your 'unbelief' make a pretty good Christmas present.

Merry Christmas!

Words to wonder about today....

Sometimes I read articles that cause me to re-think where we are and what's happening in the world and what may be next -- good and bad stuff just like there was on the very first Christmas.

Just read an article in today's New York times titled, "Hackers Attack Sites Considered Wikileaks Foes -- Calls for a Cyber War" and it was loaded with new-er words that that make me wonder.  Here are a few:  cyber war, Internet activists, cyber anarchists, Anonymous (a loosely associated group of activist computer hackers who wishes to remain 'anonymous' I suppose...).

One quote from an avowed Cyber Anarchist is worth thinking about:  "The war is on.  And everyone ought to spend some time thinking about it, discussing it with others, preparing yourselves so you know how to act is something compells you to make a decision. Be very careful not to err on the side of inaction."

The God I Want!

There was a book written some years ago with the title The God I Want.  If ever there were a recipe for idolatry, that is it.  The God of the Bible is not necessarily the God I want:  my confused desires almost certainly don't fit in with who he actually is, and just as well.  What matters much more is the God who actually made me, the God with whom (whether I want to or not) I have to do business.  And he is so much bigger and greater than anything that I could imagine that I must never imagine I have got him tied down and pigeonholed.  We need to be constantly looking harder at the God of the Bible.  Otherwise we shall discover that gradually the picture we have of him gets domesticated, whittled down to something we can live with.  And gods that we live with comfortably are idols.

Pray if you want to!

Pray if you want to!

Andy Rooney and  Prayer

Andy Rooney says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.  I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school  teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a  30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal?  It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts.  They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

But it's a Christian prayer,  some will argue.

Yes, and this is the United States of America and Canada , countries founded on Christian principles.  According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1.  So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.

If I went to a soccer game in  Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

If I went to a ping pong match in China ,  I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.

When in Rome    ......

But what about the atheists? Is another argument.

What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized.  We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humour us for 30 seconds.   If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs.  Go to the bathroom.  Visit the concession stand.  Call your lawyer!

Unfortunately, one or two will make that call.  One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's  foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of  all our rights.  Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing.  Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

God, help us.  And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.

The silent majority has been silent too long.  It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want.  It is time that the majority rules!   It's time we tell them, "You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honour Him.  That is your right, and we will honour your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away.  We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!"

God bless us one and all...Especially those who denounce Him, God bless America and Canada , despite all our faults, We are still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Art as Spiritual Technology

Just had an interesting conversation with a chance acquaintance who'se overall theme was that art, especially, film is meant to be a channel for the divine.  I agree that Art Should Point us God-ward.  The question is, which 'god'?  The challenge of 2010 and beyond is how Christ followers can bring art to life that points people to THE One True God -- Father, Son, Holy Spirit.  Maybe this challenge has your name on it....
